Kamel's manicure tips for Fashion Week
To be perfect from head to toe during Fashion Week, consider treating your manicure!
Kamel, the stars and luxury brands’ favorite nail artist, gives us his advice for beautiful nails.
Kamel, who are you?
I have been a studio manicurist "nail artist" for more than 12 years in the fashion industry.
I work with all of the greatest photographers such as Peter Lindbergh, Paolo Roversi, Patrick Demarchelier or Karl Lagerfield.
During Fashion Week I run through backstages, collaborate with the biggest luxury brands and have the chance to paint the hands of the world’s most famous celebrities and models.
Passionate about art, I put color in women’s life.
What is your golden rule for a perfect manicure?
For a perfect manicure, two golden rules:
The first basic rule is not to moisturize the hands before the manicure but only after, then respect the following protocol a base, two very thin layers of nail polish and a top coat.
And the second rule for perfect nails is to use my services!
A trick to make your nail polish last longer?
For a long-lasting hold, apply an adherent base on a healthy nail (without grease and polished with a polishing pad), apply a first very thin coat of nail polish and let it dry before applying the second.
Finish with a thin layer of top coat, let dry again and moisturize the outline of the nails with an oil.
The trick: apply a layer of top coat every 2 days for a long-lasting hold.
Your favorite nail polish brand?
I worked for two years as an "expert manicure" for Yves Saint Laurent beauty, so I naturally use their color range. These are very beautiful lacquers with strong identity colors such as « Pop Art », the red « Over Noir » or « Rouge Dada ».
Simple nail polish, permanent or semi-permanent?
Permanent or semi-permanent nail polish creates a barrier on your nail that prevents it from breathing. The moisture of the nail does not evaporate and makes it soft and fragile.
I recommend the simple nail polish, easier to change, with a greater range of colors, keeping a healthy nail.
The it color for the day?
The trend is for you to create!
I’m all for Parisian elegance and French chic.
A beautiful deep lacquered red remains a classic chic and without fail, a black will bring a more rock look. If you do not dare black, a beautiful bright blue will bring subtlety.
And in the evening?
We are lucky to have access to a limitless range of nail polish.
Feel free to play with these colors as a fashion accessory.
Break the codes of the "total look" avoiding a nail polish matching your outfit!
Dare to associate for example a red outfit with a pink polish or an orange varnish with a green dress.
A ritual to have beautiful hands?
One word ... MOISTURIZING!
The thing to avoid absolutely?
Never ever cut the skins that line your nails, the more you cut the more they grow back.
It is better to moisturize and not cut.
A tip to give to men?
Avoid the nail clipper and use a cardboard file preferably for a precise and harmonious manicure. Moisturize your hands as much as possible and do not hesitate once a month, to go get your hands pampered by a pro.
