During the 16th century, gem cutting tools improved making them more popular. It marks the beginning of the popularity of so called “white” jewelry. Himalaya, which means “abode of snow” in Sanskrit, owes its name to the purity of the rose cut diamond. A stone with a flat bottom and a domed crown: its small number of facets give it a gentler light that a round cut diamond, and at the time it was a revolution in the world of diamonds. 
Himalaya is also the name that Marie gave to her cat.
